Montana student accused of bringing meth to school

A 13-year-old C.R. Anderson student has been charged with bringing methamphetamine to school last month, while officials are investigating potential criminal action against the girl's parents.

Prosecutors filed a petition to have Cortney Wogamon declared a delinquent youth Tuesday, and added that prosecution of Wogamon's parents most likely will follow.

"We just need to decide how to charge this in a way that is most appropriate," said Deputy County Attorney Lisa Leckie.

Wogamon's parents declined to comment for the purposes of this article.

Wogamon was initially held in detention in Great Falls following the Sept. 30 incident, but has since been moved to a group home.

According to court documents, school officials received information that Wogamon may be carrying cigarettes and drugs in her backpack.

With the aid of School Resource Officer Tory Keltner, Assistant Principal Bruce Campbell searched the girl's backpack and found a package of cigarettes and a substance that appeared to be methamphetamine.

A subsequent test confirmed that the substance was, in fact, the illegal drug, according to the documents.

Court documents indicate that Wogamon told officers that she had taken the methamphetamine from her parents and brought it to school so she could seek advice from her counselor regarding her parents' alleged drug abuse.

However, she claimed she "chickened out" because she didn't want her parents to get into trouble, officials said.

Despite those assertions, documents state, Wogaman allegedly approached several students throughout the school day, told them she had drugs, and asked if they would like some.

Wogaman told investigators that she was joking about giving the drugs to other students, but apparently, at least one student took Wogaman up on her offer, according to Montana officials.

An initial appearance for Wogaman on the charge of possession with dangerous drugs with intent to sell has been scheduled for Oct. 29.
